About

Animal Behaviour & Training was founded in 2007 by Gillian Glover. Prior to starting the business Gillian worked for many years in the field of animal behaviour alongside other behaviourists and animal specialists.

Originally wanting to be a veterinary surgeon, Gillian felt this was not going to fulfil her ambition. She wanted to help the animals who couldn’t be ‘fixed’ with surgery and medicine.

Being brought up around animals meant Gillian’s understanding of patience and calm ways developed from an early age. She always trained her own dogs and spent all her spare time with her dogs and horses.

Throughout college and university Gillian undertook months of work experience at local farms, zoos and veterinary practices. In 2004 she spent several months in Athens, Greece, working with rescued loggerhead sea turtles and inadvertently formed a small pack of local stray dogs who slept outside her cabin on the beach each night and went out walking with her in the day. The dogs were an unintentional part of her work in Greece but a valuable part she is thankfull to have experienced.

Long before the business came about, Gillian and her own dogs have helped the clients of a local behaviourist address issues of aggression, and also worked on behaviour problems in a variety of animals.

On completion of her honours degree in animal behaviour at Chester University Gillian went on to work in animal health, enforcing welfare and legislation in relation to farm animals. She then moved on and took a position as a behaviourist at an equine welfare charity and from there set up her own business at Animal Behaviour & Training.

She also manages an equine stud yard where she introduces foals and youngstock to everything they have to deal with as adult horses.

Gillian has undertaken many courses in dog training and behaviour, health and saftey, NVQ in horses, BHS Riding and Road Safety, canine science and is currently studying Essential Oil therapy.

Whilst having undertaken many courses to gain scientific knowledge Gillian firmly believes that animals themselves are the best teachers and no amount of reading will ever enable you to work effectively and in harmony with an animal. Gillian is fortunate to have worked with many dogs and horses over the years, each one having something new to share. Her methods are calm, quiet, kind and consistent. Working in this way gives the animals security and builds trust, essential for any partnership to work.
